I have been asked for my stances on cannabis by banks, consumers, farmers, and communities. A 2022 poll found that 88% of Americans support legalizing cannabis. I stand with the 88% of Americans who support this legalization but with restrictions.

My biggest restriction would be limiting access and marketing to those under the age of 21. As we have seen with JUUL, children can be easily influenced by marketing; therefore, I find it necessary to set restrictions that would prevent cannabis marketing to our youth.

Banks have asked for my opinion as they will be impacted by upcoming legislation such as SAFER Banking Act. I support the SAFER Banking Act.

We should continue to allow cities to determine where they deem it appropriate for a cannabis business. This has helped to revitalize communities and abandoned buildings/lots.

My opponents have not come out in support of legalizing cannabis at the federal level. However, I will gladly take this stance.

If elected, I would support the following:

  • Support the SAFER Banking Act

  • Support exempting cannabis businesses from Section 280E, which prohibits companies from deducting business expenses from gross income associated with their business due to a Schedule I or II substance

  • Support cannabis being rescheduled from Schedule I to Schedule III of the Controlled Substances Act

  • Support automatically expunging or erasing prior cannabis convictions, as long as the sentence was non-violent and did not involve minors
