The 4th Amendment states the following:

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

This amendment is to protect whistleblowers, journalists, and protestors who speak out against the government. Whistleblowers can be the people who speak out about Boeing airplane safety concerns. The journalists who exposed the misinformation campaign for America to invade Iraq on false Weapons of Mass Destruction pretenses have also been threatened due to FISA’s warrantless searches.

The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) was established after 9/11 to surveillance threats abroad. However, it is one of the most weaponized tools for both parties. There have been 278,000 occurrences that the FBI has admitted to misusing the database to surveillance people domestically.

You may think “I have nothing to hide, so why does it matter?” Although this may be true, it is the people who are working to bring transparency to government decisions that we need to protect most. Otherwise, the program will continue to be weaponized against people like Julian Assange.

With this said, I will be the only candidate to support repealing the FISA program.

We need to bring transparency back to government and this would be a major step in the right direction.
