I would have opposed the TikTok Ban.

The fears of TikTok ownership are typically as follows.

  1. Bytedance, TikTok’s parent company, is owned by the Chinese CCP

  2. China’s access to American data and privacy

  3. Influence on younger generations

For starters, Bytedance is not owned by the Chinese CCP as my opponents will tell you. 60% of the company is owned by a group of international investors, 20% by employees (7,000 of which are Americans), and 20% by the original developers that come from Chinese descent. It is dangerous for our politicians to pedal these false narratives. If politicians are truly concerned about the Chinese CCP then why did they sign non-disclosure agreement deals to engage in private backdoor agreements with Chinese company, Gotion?

I support more data privacy, but we need a uniform privacy policy. For example, Meta was used by a foreign company, Cambridge Analytica, to influence our 2016 election and should be held to the same standard.

If elected, I promise to not support overreaching government censorship bills. I will also not sign NDAs.
